Freesat as you expect is free,really just freeview except coming from A  satellite.
In most cases you don't need freesat freeview is perfectly OK
Freesat comes into its own  where terrestrial TV is poor or non  existent,looking through trees for example is a prime point.
Hills or tall buildings are another case for freesat ,presuming that is  your field of view of the satellite isn't blocked.
